Urgency of Retinal Referrals

 
 

The urgency of retinal referrals will be discussed using time frames to include within 24 hours, 48 to 72 hours, within one week, and within two to four weeks. We will review common retinal issues that present to eye  professional’s offices and how to diagnose certain retinal conditions. It is important to identify and refer some retinal  conditions early to prevent permanent vision loss or slow down progression of certain conditions.

Almost every patient in our practice is a potential contact lens wearer, and today’s lens choices give us the flexibility to successfully fit these patients and optimize visual clarity, comfort and health. Astigmatic and presbyopic patients are an underrepresented demographic in our contact lens practices, and are great candidates for new technologies. Athletes and patients with dry eye will also benefit from open communication, listening and utilizing different materials and designs.

The ABCs of ADCs

 
 

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADC) represent a novel and exciting  new treatment option for cancer. However, there are side effects that must be  discussed, including ocular side effects. This course discusses the mechanism of  action of ocular side effects of these drugs. We will review the common complaints,  proper diagnostic work up, common treatments, and typical follow up schedule. We  will also discuss what to report to the oncologist or hematologist so that eye care professionals can collaborate in patient care. Several case reports are presented.

The Glaucoma Gauntlet – Managing Cases from Diagnosis to Treatment

 
 

Glaucoma’s chronic progressive nature necessitates pairing and leveraging multiple treatments with the goal of buying years of non-progression. Eyecare providers are currently armed with topical medications, drug delivery, laser surgeries, and intraocular surgeries to treat intraocular pressure and ultimately glaucoma. Using patient cases, this lecture will challenge attendees to work through the glaucoma diagnostics, decide on treatment necessity, and ultimately select the treatment modality. Peer-reviewed evidence will be reviewed with an emphasis on how this research guides our day-to-day care for glaucoma patients.
