Learn about Daily disposable lenses with Dr. Susan Resnick

Dr Susan Resnick, a Diplomate of the Contact Lens, Cornea, and Refractive Surgery Section of the American Academy of Optometry, gave a phenomenal presentation on daily disposable contact lenses.

It can be so hard to keep up with all of the options when it comes to daily contact lens brands, and Dr. Resnick did such a great job letting us know about all of the updates!

Some of the key takeaways:

- Virtually all patients are candidates for single use lenses

- US prescribing habits show that almost 50% of all contact lens fittings are daily disposables

- Reasons to choose a daily lens includes: Safety, compliance, part time use, and practice benefits

- 3 in 5 patients do not wash their hands prior to handling contact lenses.

- The likelihood of having a corneal infiltrative event is 12.5 x greater when wearing a reusable lens compared to a daily disposable lens.

- The MiSight lens is the first FDA approved daily disposable lens approved for myopia control

- If you have a patient with clinical dry eye, opt for a SiHy lens with surface active technology

- An annual supply of daily contact lenses only equals about the size of 2 credit cards (for people concerned about the environmental effects of throwing out contact lenses every day)
