Dr. Stephanie Woo

Dr. Stephanie Woo is a graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry. She completed a cornea and contact lens residency at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. Dr. Woo is the owner of the Contact Lens Institute of Nevada, a clinic dedicated entirely to specialty contact lenses. Dr. Woo is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society. Recently, she founded Woo University, an optometric education company. Dr. Woo enjoys lecturing on the topics of scleral contact lenses and anterior segment eye disease. Dr. Woo is the founder of Woo University.

 

Dr. Ariel Cerenzie

Dr. Ariel Cerenzie was born and raised in a small town in West Texas. She graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from Texas A&M University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences. Dr. Cerenzie has earned a fellowship in both the American Academy of Optometry and the Scleral Lens Education Society. She is also a member of the National Keratoconus Foundation.

Dr. Mazeyar Saboori

Dr. Saboori is a native Louisianan who grew up in Iran. He did his medical training at Vander University School of Medicine. He did his residency at Kresge Eye Institute and completed a fellowship in surgical glaucoma at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Saboori joined Meadows Eye as their first anterior segment surgeon in 2020. He focuses primarily on cataract surgery and medical/surgical treatment of glaucoma.

Dr. John Berdahl

Practicing in Sioux Falls, SD is our board-certified ophthalmologist, John Berdahl, MD. He is widely regarded as one of the leading international cataract surgeons. He is one of the very few surgeons in the United States who is also fellowship trained in cornea, glaucoma, and refractive surgery. Dr. Berdahl has already performed more than 35,000 eye surgeries around the globe. His published work has primarily focused on the fundamental causes of Glaucoma, Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery, and Astigmatism Management, during and after cataract surgery.

He has been involved in numerous FDA monitored clinical trials on some of the most exciting technologies in ophthalmology. He also founded Equinox, which is developing the first non-surgical, non-pharmacologic way to lower eye pressure for glaucoma treatment. He co-invented the MKO melt, which provides sedation during cataract surgery without the use of an IV. Additionally, he created astigmatismfix.com which helps thousands of surgeons per month fix residual astigmatism after cataract surgery. Finally, in an effort to improve access to care, he co-founded ExpertOpinion.MD which provides online opinions to patients from top doctors around the world.

Dr. Elizabeth Muckley

Dr. Muckley is the Director of Optometric Services at NE Ohio Eye Surgeons in Kent, Ohio where she concentrates in medical glaucoma and post-operative care of the anterior segment. A nationally recognized leader in the profession of optometry, Dr. Muckley was President of the Ohio Optometric Association in 2020, and subsequently served on the OOA Board of Directors for 9 years. She also served as past Legislative Chair, where she was instrumental in the passage of 3 Ohio Laws including scope of practice expansion.

Dr. Muckley’s passion for managing glaucoma led her to be the 2nd female optometrist to be accepted in the Optometric Glaucoma Society in 2004 and glaucoma chapter author in Lou Catania’s upcoming 3rd edition of the Primary Care of the Anterior Segment textbook. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, where she previously served on the Nominating (Chair) and Research Committees. She currently is on the AAO Governance Task Force and AOA Research and Information Committee. She is also the Education Chair of the East West Eye Conference.

Dr. Muckley has received many career awards for her service to the profession and patient care, but most notably was recognized in 2008 as the American Optometric Association’s Young Optometrist of the Year and in 2021 as the Ohio Optometrist of the Year

 

Dr. Justin Schweitzer

Justin Schweitzer, OD was born and raised in Jamestown, North Dakota. He attended Jamestown College and graduated with degrees in Biology and Business Administration in 2002. He then attended the Pacific University College of Optometry where he graduated summa cum laude in 2006. After graduation, he and his wife Nissa moved to Sioux Falls, where Dr. Schweitzer enjoyed a great general practice. In July of 2013, he completed his fellowship training in advanced anterior segment surgery care and pathology here at Vance Thompson Vision.

Dr. Schweitzer is a member of the American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, Scleral Lens Education Society, and the South Dakota Optometric Association and has had multiple articles published in scientific journals.

Dr. Joseph Pizzimenti

Dr. Joseph Pizzimenti is a full-time faculty member and tenured Professor at the Rosenberg School of Optometry at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Pizzimenti completed a residency Ocular Disease and Rehabilitative Optometry at the University of Houston. He is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and the Optometric Retina Society (ORS), serving as ORS President from 2012-2014.

Dr. Pizzimenti’s teaching and research interests include oculo-systemic disease, age-related macular degeneration, vitreomacular adhesion, and clinical applications of multimodal ophthalmic imaging. His scientific articles have appeared in a host of peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Pizzimenti was awarded a Fellowship by the World Council of Optometry in 2006, resulting in an appointment to teach and evaluate optometric education programs in Central Europe.

Dr. Pizzimenti co-authored a chapter on Diabetic Retinopathy in the textbook entitled Diabetes in Black America. He enjoys finding eclectic restaurants and traveling with his wife, Dr. Claire Pizzimenti, and their three children.

Dr. Jim Thimons

Dr. James Thimons is a 1978 graduate of Ohio State University College of Optometry. He completed his hospital residency at the Chillicothe, VA Medical Center in 1979 and then served as Chief, Optometry Service until 1985. He then accepted the position of Center Director at Omni Eye Services, Fairfax, Virginia, and served in that role until 1989 when he became Chairman, Department of Clinical Sciences at the State University of New York.

While at SUNY he developed The Glaucoma Institute, a clinical research center, and served as its first Director. In 1998, he accepted the position of Executive Director of TLC and served in that role until 2002 when he co-founded Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut, a multidisciplinary referral practice providing secondary and tertiary level care!

Dr. Thimons has received numerous awards for his service to the profession and has over 200 publications in Glaucoma, Dry Eye, Cornea and External Disease, as well as Refractive Surgery and New Technologies. He is a nationally and internationally acclaimed Speaker and Educator and an acknowledged leader in ophthalmic clinical education. He serves in professorial appointments at several universities in the US and has been a clinical investigator in over 20 NIH, NEI and Post Release Clinical Trials.
