Learn more about how to take care of your lids and lashes from Dr. Selina McGee

CE is fun when you get to hear from doctors like Dr. Selina McGee!

In her presentation, titled Show Your Lids and Lashes Some Love, Dr. McGee discussed all things lid hygiene, including how to handle potentially uncomfortable conversations on eyelash extensions, serums that may be harmful to the ocular surface, and in general, how to optimize eyelid/eyelash health.

A couple of key takeaways:

👁️‍🗨️ Educate your patients on ingredients to avoid in cosmetics and cleaners, such as BAK, butylene glycol, EDTA, formaldehyde, and parabens, to name a few. For a complete list, check out her handouts at WooU.org

👁️‍🗨️ A daily eye routine for patients includes washing lids and lashes to remove make-up and debris, followed by hypochlorous acid spray, then serum for hydration. Be sure to follow with sunscreen in the morning!

👁️‍🗨️ Make sure to take a step back and look at your patient's face - do they have ptosis, rosacea, blepharochalasis, or orbital fat prolapse? Each of these findings can affect the health and comfort of patients' eyes.

👁️‍🗨️ There are some exciting treatments in the pipeline, such as a treatment for Demodex working its way through the FDA approval process.

Be sure to watch a recap of the CE at WooU.org where the session recording and handouts are now available!
