As we know, dry eye is extremely common in most of our patients.

So, what is her modern approach? Identify the underlying cause of the dry eye, address that cause, and set realistic expectations with our patients that dry eye is a chronic condition and requires maintenance. She discussed common (and not so common!) symptoms and risk factors- including digital devices, sleep, and stress! She talked about her eyelid exam checklist that should be done with each and every patient, and discussed current technology and treatments available.

One key takeaway- Artificial tears do NOT address the underlying cause of dry eye.

This modern approach allows us to deliver the best care possible for each patient with the proper diagnosis, treatment plan and communication.
