Learn more about Anterior Segment OCT by Dr. Mile Brujic
In Dr. Mile Brujic’s presentation titled “Anterior Segment and Contact Lens Applications of OCT”, Dr. Brujic reviewed the many ways we can utilize anterior segment OCT to enhance and improve the care of patients with anterior segment disease and/or specialty contact lens wear.
Here’s are a few key takeaways from the presentation:
· Even the most experienced scleral lens prescribers may not accurately assess the scleral lens clearance values as evident by Dr. Brujics poster and other publications (Yeung, et al.). Anterior segment OCT can help us accurately measure the precise clearance beneath a scleral lens in multiple quadrants and help ensure proper alignment over both the limbus and landing of the scleral peripheral curves.
· Utilizing anterior segment OCT to observe changes in epithelial in various stages of dry eye disease can help us understand the physiological impact of dry eye based on anatomical thinning or thickening of the corneal epithelium.
· Thinning of the corneal epithelium is highly correlated with vision complaints, especially in patients that have undergone radial keratotomy.
