Learn from Dr. Stewart's Woo U Wisdom from the event with Dr. Amanda Nanasy!

Dr. Nanasy's goals for the presentation?

She wanted us to understand a concussion from a patient perspective and give details about how to evaluate concussion and headache patients.

According to the CDC, 1 in 225 Americans sustain a TBI each year. A mild TBI may occur from any bump, blow or jot to the head or body. Optometrists have the ability to detect, identify, refer and treat these patients.

What are some of the common symptoms of a concussion? Dizziness, blurred vision, mood changes, headaches, and nausea. Speaking of headaches- no two concussion patients will look the same and symptoms might be subtle. A high percentage of these patients will also have problems sustaining convergence.

During the presentation, she broke down how to actually do a concussion exam, and then discussed what we do with those findings- so helpful!

One of her top tips? Don’t be afraid of prism- a little can go a long way.

As Dr Nanasy says, lets help our patients Return to play, learn, work and live life.
